We have a host of educational venues and opportunities, and the flexibility to let you tailor your experience to suit educational need and practice plans. The program is fully accredited. Completion of the program entitles candidates to sit for the American Board of Internal Medicine examination. If you are looking for a residency that will meet your academic, professional and personal needs, take a look at West Virginia University Charleston Division and Charleston Area Medical Center. WVU full time faculty represent medical disciplines including general internal medicine, geriatrics, infectious disease, endocrinology, women’s health, medical toxicology, hematology/oncology, rheumatology, internal medicine/psychiatry, and internal medicine/pediatrics. All other major disciplines are represented among the clinical faculty. There is also a well-stocked library on site, with all the major journals.
Residents may choose from a one-year preliminary program, a three-year internal medicine program, a four-year medicine/pediatrics program, or a five-year medicine/psychiatry program. One of the key features of this program is flexibility. You are encouraged to develop your interests and train in different settings. For example, ambulatory care and advanced outpatient procedures are vital components of our program. Subspecialty clinic rotations are available. We are excited about our move next year into the new Robert C. Byrd Clinical Teaching Center which adjoins CAMC Memorial Hospital. It will provide state of the art outpatient care opportunities to our residents and their patients.
Applications are accepted only through the AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service ( ERAS).
